ALBUM REVIEW: WE’RE GIVING DJ KHALED’S ‘GRATEFUL’ 4 OUT OF 5 STARS!! FIND OUT WHY!
DJ Khaled has always been very calculated in terms of when and how he rolls out each album. The timing is always impeccable. His most recent project, Grateful, is no exception. The 23 song project dropped right at the beginning summer when the biggest songs make their mark for a season of nightcaps, late night drives, cookouts and summer flings. Appropriately, Khaled has songs perfect for each vibe.
“I’m So Grateful” featuring reggae icon Sizzla sets the tone of the multi-dimensional album. Directly followed by singles “Shinning” featuring Beyonce and Jay Z, “To The Max” featuring Drake, “Wild Thoughts” and “I’m The One”, Khaled’s letting his fans know that he’s not done making hits!
Tracks like “Don’t Quit” produced with Calvin Harris appeal to his Top 40 fans. Sonically, the song reminds of of Harris’s most recent hit “Slide” off his Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1 album that has yet to be released (look out for it on June 30th).
“Good Man” featuring Pusha T and Jadakiss, “Billy Ocean” featuring Fat Joe and Raekwon, appeal to the real Hip Hop heads. Lyrically Pusha, Jada, Joe and Raekwon kill their verses giving us a taste of what’s been missing in hip hop on contemporary albums that have been released. That gritty NYC vibe that made us fall in love with the international genre from it’s beginnings.
Making multiple appearances on the album, Future is featured on tracks like “I Can’t Even Lie”, “Iced Out My Arms” with Migos, 21 Savage, and T.I produced alongside Metro Boomin and “Whatever”. Khaled sticks to that signature sound we all know and love from the Atlanta rap sensation. “Iced Out My Arms” appeals to the flossers of south and could most definitely be played at Magic City on a Monday. Of the three tracks featuring Future, we can most definitely say this one is our favorite!
So what would we rate the album on a scale of one to five, five being the best? I’d say we’d give the album a solid four stars. The album has a something for everyone, young and old, which definitely gives it an appeal! There are a couple songs we don’t necessarily love, but can’t say we hate either. Over all, Khaled’s most recent project is most definitely a solid body of work!
