NTS RADIO SHOW DJ, JEFF MILLS CONFIRMED TO BE THE VERY FIRST DJ TO PLAY IN SPACE… FOR REAL!
At a press conference earlier today, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX will be making history with the announcement of NASA-associated NTS radio show DJ Jeff Mills will play a DJ set for approximately 12 hours in space (18 months will have passed in real time).
“I’ll be gone for a while, and it’s meant cancelling all of my upcoming festival sets, but I feel like this is as close to a homecoming gig as I’ll ever get,” he said. “I’ve got a few surprises up my sleeve, but I can tell you now my remix of Jamiroquai’s ‘Space Cowboy’ will be getting its first play.”
“A DJ playing in space is so obviously the future,” The 54 year old Detroit DJ tells Mixmag. “So I wanted to balance that with analogue technology in its purest form: three perfectly calibrated Technics 1210s.”
Mills will be taking off from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center in Musk’s specially made Falcon Heavy MKII this September 2018. So if you’re in Florida and can make your way to the center to watch it in person, don’t miss out! They will also create customized Jeff Mills x NASA bomber jackets at the pop-up shop.
This isn’t Musk’s first time sending something out to space, he sent a Tesla Roadster this past February.
