SET IT OFF 21 YEARS LATER…QUEEN LATIFAH AKA CLEO’S 2017 TRACKLIST FOR ROBBING A BANK!!
Set It Off was a classic film released 21 years ago to date! Directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Kate Lanier and Takashi Bufford, the iconic film depicted the life of four friends from the tumultuous streets of Los Angeles struggling to get themselves and their families out of the hood. After Jada Pinkett-Smith’s character looses her college bound brother to police violence (or let’s just say brutality to keep it quite frank…sound familiar?) after being mistaken for someone else they were trying to arrest, she realizes she has nothing to loose. Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, Kimberly Elise and Jada come together and decide it’s time to stop waiting for something good to come about and make it happen themselves; the four ride or die friends successfully go on a bank robbing spree until things go left. If you haven’t watched the movie and seen the plot twist, you might want to take a minute to Netflix and Chill! This movie is a classic!
Rule 101 to robbing a bank…don’t use your own car. Queen Latifah aka Cleo would always carjack a vehicle and choose one CD out of a plethora she may have found in the car and threw out the “bullshit.” The tunes selected always provided motivation for her and put her on “gangsta mode.”
So what tunes would Cleo would have rode out to 20 years later? Here are 10 songs she may have used as “mood music” to rob a bank in 2017!
1) Casanova – “Don’t Run”
2) Cardi B feat. Offset – “Lick”
3) Fat Joe, Remy Ma, French Montana – “All The Way Up”
4) Bobby Shmurda – “Hot Nigga”
5) Dave East – “30 N**gaz”
6) Kendrick Lamar – “Element”
7) Jaque – “My Pieces Hittin”
