A moment of appreciation is in order. Contributions to the culture can’t be ignored and neither can pure versatility. With that being said, the focal point of today’s post: Swizz Beatz.
Most know Swizz by his craft: as a DJ and record producer, a strong mentor, and he can be seen on Instagram guiding his young son in fashion/modeling, production and business (even having him sell beats to Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl).
However, Swizz has made an enormous name for himself in another scene: contemporary art. Swizz was the curator of a special collection in Miami in 2014 and established a free art show “No Commisions” last year, that he hopes to take around the world. This all led to Swizz being named one of the most innovative art collectors of 2015.
Swizz has previously stated that he leans on Instagram to seek out the talented artists he features, showing particular interest to young up-and-comers with clear street influence (excellent taste, in this writer’s opinion). He refers to his collection of these pieces as “The Dean Collection,” which he has mentioned is entirely for his children in the long term, as he never sells a piece after buying it.
